HCA Houston Healthcare honored with award by Houston Community College Coleman College
Houston Community College awards HCA Houston Healthcare with Outstanding Partner Award.
Houston, Texas — HCA Houston Healthcare was honored with an Outstanding Partner Award by Houston Community College (HCC) Coleman College for its partnership in growing the Computed Tomography (CT) workforce.
CT technologists are highly trained radiographers who work with computerized, rotating X-ray equipment to take cross-sectional images of the human anatomy. With the help of HCC Coleman College, HCA Houston Healthcare is actively solving a shortage of CT technologists by upskilling some of its general radiologic technologists.
“There is an increasing need for these imaging specialists as CT scans have increased significantly over the past 20 years, particularly in hospitals,” said Christopher Daza, program director of radiography at HCC Coleman College. “CT scans are a good diagnostic tool for physicians and there is a high demand for CT technologists to take and deliver these scans. When HCA Houston Healthcare asked us to develop a fast-track CT program for their radiologic techs, we were glad to support this initiative.”
HCC Coleman College developed a 10-week CT upskilling hybrid course that launched in June 2022 with a 13-member cohort from HCA Houston Healthcare. While the program was intended to fill a local need for CT professionals, the course has also successfully launched and graduated cohorts in the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division including Corpus Christi, McAllen and Brownsville.
“HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division’s collaboration with Houston Community College Coleman College has yielded remarkable results in establishing accelerated, tailored training programs for radiology technologists transitioning to computed tomography (CT) technicians,” said Doug Goodman, regional vice president of human resources at HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. “I am proud to see our partnership has flourished beyond HCA Houston Healthcare and into the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division market.”
